Act Two
Chapter Five: Time Catalyst
“Who is she?” First Officer Harrison had a smug look of disgust. The simulated viewing panel displayed a holographic profile photo of an exotic-looking monster.

“A witch, through and through.” Chief Commander Alex Drake pressed down on the white-rimmed control panel and Hexuba’s vital statistics flashed before them both.

Like the snowy white on the panel, most of the room was decorated in the shade. Everything from tactical data to engineering to alarm systems to defense systems were indisputably marked by marble black labels on the high walls. Dozens on white-uniformed men and women passed each other with some kind of information in their hands. One approached Alex with a clipboard. “Sir, the scheduled Time Flyer test launches for the evening.”

Alex skimmed the report before tossing it onto the illuminated console. “Carry on, ensign.” He took a long sip of herbal coffee from his mug before looking back at the profile.

“Sir, the Quasar Sabers are what unifies humanity in the year 5298 with the delta class mutants of the M-51 Galaxy, who make up thirty-three percent of Time Force’s working class. If those swords are destroyed-”

“Lesson one of the old rulebooks, Harrison: life’s more than dates and statistics. Our actions in events like these are to preserve the justice that Time Force signals. We destroy Hexuba, we preserve Time Force.”

“Destroy, sir? I-I thought we didn’t-”

Alex cocked his eyebrow. “Are…you questioning my decision….Harrison? Because I’d hate to have one of my best officers placed under indefinite suspension for something that could have been prevented.”

“Sir, I didn’t-”

He sat back in his chair. “Of course you didn’t. Because it’s my job to make sure you’re doing your job. Or else we’d have mutant criminals running your streets.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Now Hexuba has a long history with the demented kind. She was involved in the wars between Zordon and Lord Zedd eleven thousand years ago, and was a key factor in the catastrophic defeat of the ancient Galaxy Rangers that spread the Galactabeasts across the universe. After Ancient Lothor was destroyed, she was Mutiny’s lackey for three millennia. Now she’s reuniting her family for a threat we cannot afford to take lightly. Extreme and decisive force must be taken, Harrison.”

“Shall I alert the Time Force Rangers? They’re currently at a peace treaty on Triforia, but-”

“No. There’s someone else I’ve got in mind for this mission. Someone who’s had more experience with the members of the Galaxy Rangers and who may know their weaknesses. You’re dismissed, Harrison.”

“Yes, sir.” Harrison saluted his commander before heading towards the exit.

At the exit door, a robotic security guard labeled “Senturion Security” stood on watch. Harrison slid his personnel card through a slot on the Senturion’s wrist. The guard’s chest blinked and the doors automatically opened.

Looking at the console, Alex pressed a series of buttons and waited for a response. He tapped his mug with his fingernails in a repeated pattern. On the smaller viewing screen, a blinking date read 02-09-2005, 12:35am. A static-ridden face appeared asking what was needed of him. “I’m assigning you to a special mission. I’ve transmitted coordinates for the Megaship to take you to planet Rashon. But first, you’ll need to make a stop by California. All is explained in the log transmission.”

Sir, with all due respect, the unity conferences on Edenoi aren’t finished. Is there anyone else who can take this mission?

“I’m afraid it’s more complicated than that. It’s your sister. She’s been…taken hostage by Hexuba and her army.”

Karone?” he said angrily. "What have they done to her?

“Nothing yet. But I’m afraid that if you wait much longer, she may be forced to return to the dark side.”

“I was hoping that nightmare was over. I’ll take my team immediately.”

No!” Alex had to regather himself. “I mean, leave them for the conference. It’s vital that they see it through. I have faith that you can see to your sister’s safe return, Andros. May the power protect you.” The screen was flipped off before Andros could respond.

He sat back in the chair now thinking to himself. Alex looked down at the mug again, noting the Time Force logo largely imprinted. With a curled lip, he tossed the cup into the nearest trash reciprocal listening to the glass shattering.
