Chapter Seven: The Savage Task
“Give me the Quasar Sabers,” Hexuba extended her hand to Leo. His reaction was most irregular to her. | “Our sabers? Why?” Leo seemed too apprehensive in the voice. No, it wasn't possible. Their minds could not break through a spell of this magnitude. “What?” Hexuba’s voice and fists trembled. “You’re questioning me still?” Lightning surged throughout her crystal ball. At the same moment, Leo’s hand felt like it was being crushed mercilessly, as with Damon and Kai. The sabers were finally dropped to the ground. The ball disengaged. Hexuba shoved them out of the way to pick up the weapons. The Rangers were on their backs due to the electric shocks generating from the hands. “Get up!” She screamed, kicking Leo in the chest. With all sabers in hand, Hexuba dipped their tips onto the broken blade of the Savage Sword. Their bright energies were extended from the animal emblems and glided down the Quasar steel. When the power surged into the Savage Sword, it began to illuminate. A strange sound suddenly entered the mix. She stared at the weapons trying to see what the problem was, but the sound was only getting louder. It was a dull hum that was becoming more like a jet engine. By the time she looked over her shoulder and to the sky, there wasn’t enough time to even blink. The bright head of a laser beam, triple the size of Hexuba’s own height, nailed the witch at full force. The ground erupted and the earth trembled as fire and sparks engulfed everything. Her helpless body was slingshot from the ground and launched nearly thirty feet away. Sparks and red power debris were still raining. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “Woo!” Blake jumped from his seat. “That’s a hit, baby.” Andros fiddled with the controls. “Mega-laser recharged. Call it again, Blake.” “Aight.” He looked on the monitor that was laid out as grid with letters and numbers naming the coordinates. It was called “Battleship mode” in the corner of the screen. “B-12.” Andros slammed the launch button and the laser was shown on the screen to fire another blast of red energy through the atmosphere of Rashon. The screen now zoomed in on Hexuba’s location. She was seen barely conscious and on the ground, but managed to look up moments before the second blast completely cloaked her into heavy dust and fiery sparks. Andros turned to Blake, “You sunk my Megaship” The two Rangers then high-fived. “Alright, Deca. Let’s settle her down by the Galaxy Rangers, break the spell and pick up Hexuba’s remains for lonely Time Force morticians.” The Astro Megaship ripped through the crimson clouds and finally penetrated into clear orange skies that almost blended with the terrain. On screen, the smoky remains from the two blasts were shown with the coordinates locked in. Andros turned to the Thunder Ranger. “The jump tubes are on deck three. When we get closer, we’ll head on down.” The Rangers snapped their helmets back on. The smoke had now risen well above five-hundred feet from the surface; above the ship as well. Both Rangers stared at the billowing tower. “Is it me…or do you have that ‘calm before the storm’ feeling, too?” “Trust me, I wish it was just you.” That feeling was definitely back. But now why? Just then, for no more than two seconds, Andros got the most disturbed look on his face. While he was looking at Blake…no. But it was too realistic. He could have sworn that he saw a light, no bigger than a penny, circling around the two of them. And then it was gone. Blake hadn’t even noticed. Then, from inside that tower of smoke, a hand larger than half the Megaship emerged. The palm slammed against the front hull, stopping the ship in the sky. Blake was hurled through the glass viewing screen and smash into a field of sparks and live wires. The outer exterior of the ship was being crunched by the clutching hand. Readings indicated the belly of the ship being pinched through, igniting an explosion that shook loose every reinforced control panel on the bridge. Andros was amazed to still be breathing. He scurried through the remains of the viewing screen. There was Blake; unconscious and consumed in fire and glass. Had Blake not put his helmet back on seconds beforehand, Andros shuddered to think of the consequences. Angry at the thought of the ship imploding any second, he scooped Blake onto his shoulders and raced into the hallway, which was now a fiery mess. He accidentally crunched Deca’s eyepiece on the floor on his way out. The metallic floors rumbled without give, throwing the heroes from one wall to another. Andros had to get up with everything he had left to keep going. He threw Blake down the ladders that lead to deck three and jumped down himself. Andros saw the sign above the next room reading “Jump Tubes.” He sprinted as fast as humanely possible. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hexuba’s face appeared from within the tall tower of smoke, staring down at the ship in her hands. A final squeeze broke apart the remaining structure, which proceeded to plummet towards the earth. An apocalyptic explosion resulted in her hands, producing a fireball that scorched her face terribly. Still, she watched, with a face as solemn as stone, as the debris crumbled to the surface where Jinxer and the Galaxy Rangers were observing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Coming in fast, the Ninja Storm Rangers unleashed a battalion of laser blasts that broke Hexuba’s attention. On Cameron’s mark, Shane and the others flew their DFV’s in a cyclone formation around the behemoth; spiraling around her at all heights. It was Shane who was by her face, which starred at him with a dead silence. “Now that’s plain creepy.” He unfastened his seatbelt, sensing the destruction of his vehicle at any moment. His Wind Morpher began re-structure itself. “Battlizer, engage!” The cockpit lid popped off into the air as Shane set the DFV on a collision course. As the Wind Ranger leaped away, electricity crackled around his wrist, and then his body. Now at Hexuba’s waistline, Shane’s armored wings forged to propel him above the giant’s head in no time. Using the distraction his comrades were providing, he gathered energy into the hawk emblem on his chest armor. The Red Wind Ranger concentrated the power and launched it at his DFV as it impacted. This combined with the relentless laser barrages from his teammates, the leviathan was falling backwards into the smoke. “Woooo!” Shane performed an airborne victory dance followed by a moonwalk. But that party was crashed after something incredibly powerful clamped around his chest. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Cam, witnessing Hexuba’s fall, spoke into the Cyclone Morpher. “And big momma’s down! Guys, do have a lock on Blake or Andros yet?” Hunter was the first voice to come through. “There’s too much interference,” he yelled. “I’m going down by the ship wreckage.” “Guys, we need to obtain the Savage Sword before anyone else. If we do, you guys can have all the ice cream you’ll ever want.” “Sweet deal,” followed Tori. “Rocky Road?” Dustin was following behind Tori down to the surface. Cam answered with an irritated tone, “Yes, Dustin. Whatever you want. What about you, Shane?” There was no response coming from Shane’s Morpher, even after several seconds passed by. “Shane, do you copy?” Still nothing. The most irregular feeling came to his gut. Sensei or not, Shane would never miss out on an ice cream giveaway. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ With the flying machines swarming all over the place, Jinxer materialized a black card into both hands. A simple flick of the wrist sent both towards the crimson-colored vehicle.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hunter’s DFV was spinning out of control, but that was the least of Shane’s problems. A large metallic cuff was dragging down from the sky. The cuff was being retracted by a pole connected it to the Red Ranger on the ground, who was now decked out in heavyweight armor himself. The cuff had completely smashed the hawk emblem. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The bats fiercely ate up Hunter’s control panel. Now they were focusing their attention onto Hunter’s suit. He was finally able to stretch and reach a gear next to his seat, ripping it down. The red alarm started to blare as almost immediately the outer exterior of the DFV began to break apart panel by panel. At last, a souped-up cycle was revealed near the rear and Hunter had to hack his way through the bats with his Thunder Staff to get to it. He mounted the Ninja Glider Cycle and held on tight. It was seconds later that the DFV was completely dismantled, leaving Hunter and the cycle on a freefall ninety-feet from the ground. Cam’s voice came from his Thunder Morpher. “That’s right guys, blow up the new vehicles. Cam doesn’t mind at all!”
