If the combined forces of Rita and Zedd weren't bad enough, Rita's little brother would soon join in the family fun. Rito Revolto proved himself to have the firepower to completely decimate the Thunderzords, which in effect totally stripped the Rangers' powers.

With evil ready to spew over the streets of Angel Grove, Zordon knew that in order to save the future, the Rangers would have to go to the original source and seek out Ninjor, the creator of the Power Coins.

Though the quest was perilous and riddled with traps, it was not in vain. Whereas their powers once came from the brute of the dinosaur, it would now come from the grace of the ninja. Ninjor endowed the Rangers with new Power Coins that enabled them two Ranger modes- that of their original suits, and that of new Ninja Ranger suits. New abilities and zords were theirs to master.

Even with their new powers, it wasn't worth sacrificing Kimberly. When Kim was having her life force slowly drained, Zedd paid a personal visit to the Command Center to negotiate a deal with Zordon- Kim's life in exchange for the Rangers to pilot the evil Shogunzords to destroy Angel Grove.

By gaining remote control access to the Shogunzords, the Rangers were able to keep them as their own. As for Kim, it was her captor, Katherine, who ended up saving her. Katherine broke herself from Rita's spell and, like Tommy, joined the Rangers in the war against evil. However, Kat became the second Pink Ranger so that Kim could persue a career in national gymnastics.

But it was only the calm before the storm. Rita and Rito's father, Master Vile, left his galaxy (where evil was supreme) to finish off matters with Earth. By using the Orb of Time, Earth's rotation was reveresed and reduced the Rangers to helpless kids.
